On October 18 and 19, 2021, the 9th World Forum on China Studies was held in Shanghai under the theme of "the Communist Party of China, China, and the World". The forum was jointly organized by the Information Office of the State Council and the Shanghai Municipal Government, and hosted by the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences and the Information Office of the Shanghai Municipal Government. The forum is a high-level and open academic forum, and serves as a country-level platform for studies on China and exchanges between Chinese and foreign cultures. On October 18, Chen Dongxiao, President of the Shanghai Institutes for International Studies (SIIS), attended the discussion on China and the transformation of the global governance system in digital space, which was chaired by Lu Chuanying, RCGCG director. This was the first sub-forum held at the event. Chinese and US experts had in-depth discussion over global power struggles, data security, and international cooperation in regards to the transformation of the global cyber governance system. The experts involved came from organizations such as the China Institute of International Studies, China Institutes of Contemporary International Relations, SIIS, Qihoo 360 Technology, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, and EastWest Institute.
